The Rensselaer County Legislature is calling on the state to repeal the HALT Act.

The legislation limits how long an inmate can spend in solitary confinement.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are asking Gov. Kathy Hochul to push for a repeal of the act, because they claim it is making the situation dangerous inside prisons.

The state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision has agreed to temporary suspension of certain provisions.
