Senate passes legislation to put life-saving AED machines in more schools

A life-saving effort for schools across America is now one step closer to becoming reality.

The HEARTS Act has officially passed in the Senate, according to Sen. Chuck Schumer.

It will bring automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to schools throughout the country.

Schumer worked alongside Buffalo Bills’ Safety Damar Hamlin to make this happen. Hamlin went into cardiac arrest in January 2023 during a Monday night football game. The Bills medical team used an AED and performed CPR, saving Hamlin’s life.

“This legislation goes beyond the field and its impacts will stretch thousands of miles outside Buffalo to help millions of kids,” Schumer said.

The HEARTS act will now head to President Joe Biden’s desk to be signed into law.
