Sheriff: Montgomery County man drove drunk, crashed vehicle

A Montgomery County man is facing a felony driving while intoxicated charge after a crash.

Ian W. Smith, 43, of Palatine Bridge, is accused of crashing his vehicle on Lafayette Street in Palatine Bridge on Dec. 14, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Smith has a previous DWI conviction within the last 10 years, said investigators, which upgrades the charge to a felony. His driving privileges were also revoked, investigators said.

Smith allegedly refused a chemical test to determine his blood alcohol concentration.

Smith faces several charges, including DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation, use of a motor vehicle without an interlock device and obstruction of governmental administration. He was arraigned in Glen Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
