Crews in Troy have begun work to replace a severely deteriorated section of a water main line.

Mayor Carmella Mantello said if the pipe bursts, it could have major consequences for the entire city.

An emergency declaration was issued last month to get the problem fixed.

The defective equipment is at the Eddy’s Lane pump station. That facility controls pumping operations for all of Troy, officials said.

Eight other communities also get their water from Troy.
