The city of Troy and Rensselaer County are partnering to bring back the Knickerbacker Ice Rink.
The city shut down the arena in 2018 due to maintenance issues related to the ice-making equipment and failed piping.
County officials announced Thursday that with the help of $2 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds that Rensselaer County received, the city of Troy will be able to fulfill the Knickerbacker Arena’s original purpose as an ice rink.
The project will be done in phases, with renovations and air system upgrades in the first phase and a weight room and other new amenities in phase two.
