8-year-old boy dies after being hit by a car

The incident happened Wednesday night in Schenectady with authorities saying the driver took off.

Schenectady Police is an investigating a hit and run that took the life of an 8-year-old boy.

The incident happened Wednesday night near the intersection of Chrisler Avenue and Crane Street.

Police said at around 7:38 p.m. Wednesday officers responded to the area for a report of a child who had been struck by a vehicle.

Once police officer arrived on scene, they found the 8-year-old boy unresponsive. The child was rushed to Ellis Hospital where he later died.

Police said the driver of the car drove off before officers arrived. When officers arrived on scene, they immediately began searching for the suspect.

Schenectady Police said they located the car that killed the 8-year-old in the Woodlawn area of Schenectady and detectives are currently speaking with a person of interest.
