Beignet Bellies had a ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday on New Scotland Avenue.
The cafe is offering sweet and savory versions of the popular pastry, along with homemade ice cream and bubble teas.
The owner of the business says she’s putting her own spin on beignets.
She says usually they are dusted with powdered sugar, but she is kicking it up a notch and adding fillings.
We asked the owner how she came up with the idea for a cafe.
“I went to New Orleans last year in august I had my first beignet, so I had a beignet belly and my daughter said that sounds like a cafe, or a restaurant,” Café owner Josita Walker said. “I was like you’re right; we don’t have that in our area. We don’t have a beignet cafe, so I decided to look into doing my business, and here I am.”
The cafe will officially open to the public on Tuesday.
It’ll be open Tuesday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
