Albany County DA to handle case of Albany’s first 2025 homicide
Albany County District Attorney Lee Kindlon will be the lead prosecutor in the case of the Schenectady man charged in Albany's first homicide of 2025.
Leonardo Guzman, 34, is accused of shooting and killing 30-year-old Dewitt Miller.
Albany County’s new District Attorney Lee Kindlon will be the lead prosecutor in the case of Albany’s first 2025 homicide. It’s the first time a district attorney in Albany County has prosecuted a case in more than 20 years.
Leonardo Guzman, 34, is accused of shooting and killing Dewitt Miller, 30. It happened Jan. 30 just after 5:30 p.m. at 396 Central Ave., police said.
A compliance hearing was held on Friday in Albany County Court. Kindlon told the court that all materials have been turned over to the defense.
Kindlon, who became D.A. in January, says he’s planning to handle this case himself and secure justice for the family of Dewitt Miller. Paul Clyne was the last elected District Attorney to prosecute a case himself, back in 2002.
Guzman faces 25 years to life in state prison if convicted.
