Albany County man gets 25 years to life in prison for raping child

An Albany County man was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for sexually abusing a child at an unlicensed day care in Green Island.

John Ferrara, of Fuera Bush, was convicted of raping a girl who was between the ages of 5 and 8 in Green Island from Feb. 1, 2016 and June 4, 2018. Ferrara’s girlfriend operated the business from her home on River View Drive.

He was convicted in Albany County Court on Aug. 2 of one count of predatory sexual assault against a child.

Judge Roger McDonough said the “mental damage, the emotional damage, the psychological damage, will go on for God knows how long” and called the crimes the “most base villainous acts the court can imagine.”

Assistant District Attorney Jennifer McCanney handled the prosecution of the case.
