Albany County is buying the South End Grocery Store.
The decision became official with a vote of 26-7 at the county legislature meeting on Monday night. It is a $450,000 investment.
The county plans to use money from the American Rescue Plan Act.
A few people voiced concerns the space could be too small to use as a grocery store again.
The store on South Pearl Street in downtown Albany was meant to provide a food market in an area known as a food desert. There are no stores offering fresh food nearby.
South End Grocery suddenly shut down last August, just eight months after opening. It ran into several issues during that time, including missed mortgage payments, and was closed for weeks due to an incident with a fire extinguisher.
