Albany motorcyclist faces charges after high-speed chase

A motorcyclist is accused of leading police on a high-speed chase.

State Police attempted to stop Shamel W. Beavers, 29, of Albany just before 7 p.m. on Saturday in the area of Exit 4 in Colonie. Beavers kept going and traveled on the Northway Exit 2W off-ramp. He lost control and crashed, police said.

Troopers found an illegal bladed weapon in his possession. He is not allowed to possess a weapon because of a previous felony conviction.

Beavers was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment and numerous traffic violations.

He was released and was scheduled to be in Colonie Town Court Monday.
