Second person arrested in Gloversville fire

Second person arrested in massive fire that destroyed a Gloversville warehouse.

Two people have been charged in connection with the fire that destroyed a warehouse building in Gloversville.

Sean Quigley, 24, and Matthew R. Conklin, 38, have been charged with third-degree arson, burglary, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment by Gloversville Police in the fire that destroyed a former Taylor Made plant at 10 W. Ninth Ave. in Gloversville.

Conklin also was charged in connection with an unrelated case, police said, but did not elaborate.

Police are not seeking any more suspects and said there is no danger to the public.

A call for a report of fire at the location was received around 2:50 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29. Crews were on scene for more than 12 hours battling the fire made difficult by low visibility and high heat, staying on scene several hours after the fire was put out, the Gloversville Fire Department said.

Despite challenges with the fire, the fire department says no one was injured. An investigation into what caused the fire began immediately leading to Quigley’s arrest.

After his arrest, Quigley was released and is due back in Gloversville City Court on Sept. 9. Conklin was arraigned and sent to Fulton County Jail. He is due in Gloversville City Court at a later date.

The Gloversville Fire Department thanked multiple agencies for their help putting out the fire including the Gloversville Police Department, the Office of Fire Prevention and Control, Johnstown Fire Department, Berkshire Fire, Meco and Pleasant Square.
