Ballston Spa man convicted of manslaughter in killing of neighbor
A Ballston Spa man was found guilty Thursday of beating his neighbor with a baseball bat that eventually caused the man’s death.
After a nearly two-week trial, Pharrin Greene was convicted in Saratoga County Court of manslaughter for the assault of Bernard Rodgers in Ballston Spa on March 12, 2022. Saratoga County District Attorney Karen Heggen said that the assault left Rodgers with deadly injuries.
“That assault resulted in serious physical injuries being, inflicted upon our victim. The victim then lingered for a substantial period of time as a result of those injuries, and ultimately died,” Heggen said.
Greene broke down the front door of his downstairs neighbor, Bernard Rodgers, and entered his apartment, prosecutors said. He then struck him multiple times with a baseball bat which caused severe head injuries.
Rodgers died over five months later.
Greene was originally charged with assault, but those charges were upgraded after the death.
In addition to manslaughter, Greene was also convicted of first-degree assault, two counts of burglary, and criminal mischief.
Greene faces up to 25 years in prison when sentenced on Dec. 5.
District Attorney Karen Heggen thanked everyone who helped get this conviction.
“This verdict would not have been possible without the rapid response of the Ballston Spa Police Department and their joint investigation with the New York State Police. Justice came today for the family and friends of Bernard Rodgers who have been waiting two-and-a-half years for this outcome.”
