Bethlehem Central School District holds first board meeting since threats
Bethlehem, N.Y. (WNYT) – The Board of Education at the Bethlehem Central School District had its first board meeting Wednesday night since the phone threats last week.
Last week there were six phone calls received by both Bethlehem High School and Bethlehem Police Department that threatened gun violence across the high school, the middle school, and the football team.
“I think a lot of people who have been to other school districts were shocked by how well we communicated,” one board member said.
Then Superintendent Jody Monroe detailed the new safety measures that the district temporarily put into place last week.
“We did have a lockdown at the high school in Eagle in response to the September 14th threat. We suspended after-school and evening activities. We did also include bag checks at the high school for a few of those days,” Monroe said.
Monroe said that the district has had an added police presence since the threats and that the presence will continue till at least the end of this week.
There was one parent in attendance who thanked the board for everything that they had done the past week and then addressed her concern on safety. She said she was worried about school doors being propped open.
Monroe said the criminal investigation is ongoing with the search for a suspect now expanded outside the Capital Region.
