Bronx man admits to role in 2024 Albany shootout

A 21-year-old man from the Bronx has pleaded guilty for his role in a 2024 shootout at a park on Madison Avenue.

It happened on Oct. 19, 2024 on the corner of Madison Avenue and Ontario Street.

Cheick Diarra admitted to getting into an argument with a man he didn’t know. When that person pulled a handgun from his waist, the two began shooting each other, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.

The victim was treated on scene by emergency medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Diarra pleaded guilty in Albany County Court on Thursday to criminal possession of a weapon. He will receive 6 ½ years in prison when sentenced on July 16.

Police are still investigating the incident and looking for the other shooter.
