Cairo pilot not hurt after sea plane crashes in Catskill
A Cairo man was not hurt after his plane crashed into the Hudson River in Catskill.
The small sea plane had some type of mechanical issue and crashed in the river in the area of Dutchman’s Landing on Thursday around 5 p.m.
The pilot, 71-year-old Edward Novack, was approaching to land in the river, when his plane caught a crosswind. That caused the wing of his aircraft to strike the water and the nose of the plane then slammed into the water, Catskill Police said.
The plane was taking on water, but Novack was able to get it to a nearby dock.
He was the only occupant, and there were no injuries.
The aircraft was removed from the water and no spills were noted.
Creekside Marina, Catskill Fire Department and Catskill Rescue Squad assisted at the scene.
The FAA was notified, and the accident is under investigation.
