Cohoes attorney gets 4 to 12 years in prison for stealing half-million dollars from estate
A Cohoes attorney has been sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison after admitting to stealing over a half-million dollars from the estate of a client.
Roy Nestler, 56, had pleaded guilty to grand larceny last year. Nestler admitted that between Oct. 16, 2020 and July 14, 2021, he deposited over $1 million of estate funds into his own business account.

Roy Nestler, 56, had pleaded guilty to grand larceny last year. Nestler admitted that between Oct. 16, 2020 and July 14, 2021, he deposited over $1 million of estate funds into his own business account. He only distributed $535,000 to the beneficiaries of the will.
Nestler used $512,000 for his own personal expenses including his mortgage and withdrawals at Saratoga Casino.
He was required to pay restitution to the estate as well as the Lawyers’ Fund for Client Protection, which paid $400,000 to the victim.
Nestler also was disbarred.
