Columbia County Sheriff Don Krapf was attending President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address Wednesday evening.

U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro, R-Catskill, brought the sheriff as his guest.

Krapf told NewsChannel 13 that it is an honor to attend. Law enforcement and public safety are facing concerns never seen before, he said.

Among the issues are the opioid crisis and the drug fentanyl, which continues to kill at epic levels. Mental health is another concern, and he is also concerned about losing men and women of law enforcement and corrections officers to suicide because of PTSD. 

Krapf added that he hopes Biden continues to support and focus on public safety needs to keep communities safe.
