Commercial trailer catches fire on I-88E in Princetown while being towed

The New York State Police tell us a heavy-duty tow truck hauling a commercial trailer heading eastbound on Interstate 88 caught fire on Monday night.

Police say they responded to the roadway in Princetown for reports of a commercial trailer fire around 9:30 p.m.

Investigators determined that a commercial vehicle hauling a trailer had mechanical issues while traveling and was being towed by a heavy-duty tow truck to get repaired.

While the trailer was being towed, it caught fire, said police.

Authorities say the tow truck and commercial vehicle were able to be detached before the trailer became fully engulfed.

Officials say no injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
