Conservatives endorse Stec to replace Stefanik in NY-21
New York’s Conservative Party has officially endorsed State Sen. Dan Stec to replace Rep. Elise Stefanik in NY-21.
The party sent its official recommendation to the district’s Republican chairs, they said, who will select the final nominee.
Stec currently represents the 45th Senate District, which stretches from Glens Falls to the Canadian border.
Blake Genedebien is the Democrat candidate running at this time.
As NewsChannel 13 has reported, Stefanik is set for a confirmation vote next Wednesday to become ambassador to the United Nations.
Republican lawmakers have delayed a confirmation for months, as they look to maintain their slim majority in the House of Representatives.
Stefanik will then have to resign from her seat in NY-21.
Gov. Kathy Hochul then has 10 days to schedule a special election to replace her. The election then must happen within 70 to 80 days.
