Mother, son killed in early Wednesday morning Colonie fire
COLONIE, N.Y. (WNYT)- A mother and son died in a Colonie fire, early Wednesday morning.
Fire crews responded to a fire at 39 Tanglewood Road early Wednesday morning, according to the Colonie Fire Department.
The call came in around 12:30 a.m. Colonie Fire Services Coordinator, Michael Romano told NewsChannel 13’s Tamara Starr.
Crews arrived within four minutes to heavy smoke and heavy fire. He said both of the victims were taken out of the home by firefighters within 10 minutes.
The victims are identified as Caroll Debrocky, 76, and James Debrocky, 56.
It took crews 30 minutes to get the fire under control, Romano said.
This means five people have died from fires in Colonie over the past 60 days.
Another fatal fire happened on Locust Park in Colonie, back in January. Romano says that can take an emotional toll on the firefighters.
“I’ve got young firemen with one, two, three, four, five years that aren’t used to seeing this,” Romano said. “These guys have gone through some tough times.”
Anyone with information or surveillance video on the fire is asked to call police at 518-783-2754.
