Cyclist left with potentially life-threatening injuries from crash in Pittsfield

Pittsfield Police say Cheshire Road was closed for about four hours between Williamsburg Terrace and Greenwich Street, due to a motor vehicle crash involving a cyclist Friday.

Police say around 8:39 p.m., they responded to the area in front of Berkshire Gas Company for a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a cyclist.

Authorities say preliminary investigation determined the 18-year-old driver, traveling northbound, struck a 33-year-old cyclist, also traveling northbound from behind the vehicle.

The cyclist was taken to Berkshire Medical Center for potentially life-threatening injuries to his head, said officials.

Pittsfield Police say the accident remains under investigation, and anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact Sergeant David Hallas at 448-9700, extension 560.
