Hannah Bunce, 63, of Mechanicville, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and harassment. The incident appeared to be an instance of corporal punishment.

Bunce was due to be Halfmoon Town Court on Wednesday, but her appearance has been rescheduled for June 5.

It happened on April 4 at around 11:45 a.m. at a day care facility 41 Werner Road in the town of Halfmoon, police said. The name of the day care center has not been released, but that is the address for Maple Leaf Day Care.

The investigation began after the child’s father picked up his son and noticed that his left cheek was red. Bunce told him that it was hot in the room that day, court papers said.

Child Protective Services contacted the family on April 11 to report the incident and the family wanted to press charges.

A co-worker had told police that the child Bunce is accused of slapping had bit another child.
