Fahy, McDonald voice concern over proposed Amtrak service reductions

Assemblymembers Pat Fahy and John McDonald are writing to the U.S. Transportation Secretary, over the recent decision to scale back service at the Albany-Rensselaer Train Station.

Assemblymembers Pat Fahy and John McDonald are writing to the U.S. Transportation Secretary, over the recent decision to scale back service at the Albany-Rensselaer Train Station.

Starting next month, Amtrak will be losing three daily round trips between the Capital Region and New York City.

The schedule is being reduced due to work planned for the East River tunnels in the city.

There will be limits on the number of passenger trains that can travel back and forth.

In a statement, Fahy and McDonald told Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg:

“These corridors are vital transportation routes for passengers, workers, and residents of the Capital Region, providing affordable, reliable, and rapid transit options aside from cars and air travel, carrying hundreds of thousands of riders annually.
