Columbia County Sheriff's Office confirmed with NewsChannel 13 Saturday afternoon that there was a fatal plane crash in the Copake area.

Columbia County Sheriff’s Office confirmed with NewsChannel 13 Saturday afternoon that there was a fatal plane crash in the Copake area.

The FAA said six people were on board the plane.

Undersheriff Jacqueline Salvatore says the amount of fatalities is unknown at this time, as investigation continues.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said a twin engine Mitsubishi MU-2B aircraft crashed in a field near Copake around 12:15 p.m.

Officials said the aircraft was headed to Columbia County Airport. which is in Hudson.

The FAA originally posted that two people were on board before correcting it to six Saturday night.

The FAA, along with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating, along with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said the NTSB will lead the investigation and provide any updates.

The NTSB tells NewsChannel 13 that they are headed to crash site and will hold a press conference on Sunday.

Other details about the crash are not known at this time.
