The FBI and Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office are offering $10,000 for information related to who deliberately tampered with a railroad track in Corinth.
Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo and the Bureau tell NewsChannel 13 the tampering took place on tracks associated with the Saratoga Corinth and Hudson Railway passenger line.
The railway offers scenic passenger rides for just over a year, and was recently named by USA Today as one of the 10 must-experience train rides in the country.
The FBI is involved because they’ve determined this was a deliberate attempt to derail the train, which could have resulted in multiple deaths or serious injuries, according to Special Agent Janeen DiGuiseppi.
DiGuiseppi could not, however, provide any further details as to the extent of the damage.
The tampering occurred on the tracks parallel to Route 9 near Emory lane in Corinth, DiGuiseppi said .
The FBI is urging anyone who knows something about this incident to call them immediately, as they are working with very little information to handle this case.
Anyone with information is asked to call 1-(800)-CALL-FBI. You can also leave tips at tips.FBI.gov.
