Filing: ShopRite closures to affect 567 employees
Shop Rite closures to affect 567 workers
The closure of the five ShopRites in the Capital Region will affect 567 employees, according to the company’s filing with the state.
The company confirmed last week that it was shuttering its stores in Albany, Colonie, Niskayuna, Slingerlands and North Greenbush because they were not financially viable.
The stores will be closed Dec. 9, according to the company’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice filed with the state Department of Labor.
Also, grocery chain Wegman’s has no interest in taking over those stores. The company, which has its headquarters in Rochester and 110 stores along the East Coast, said in a statement to NewsChannel 13 that it has no plans to expand into this region.
