Fire extinguisher mishap forces temporary shutdown of South End Grocery Store
The highly anticipated South End Grocery Store in Albany is temporarily closed.
The Black-owned business – located in a former McDonald’s – just had its grand opening late December.
Owner Travon Jackson told NewsChannel 13 they’re shut down right now to do a deep clean.
The fire extinguisher accidentally went off a couple weeks ago in the rear prep area, said Jackson, and they had to hose everything down.
There was phosphorus dust everywhere, making it unsafe for customers and employees.
This happened right around the six-month anniversary, said Jackson, so he decided it was best to shut down and do a six-month cleaning and restock produce.
The plan is to reopen on Tuesday, Jackson said.
