Georgia man gets 5 years in prison for transporting guns to Albany
A Georgia man was sentenced on Monday to 5 years in prison for illegally delivering guns to a New York resident.
Devon Newsome, 32, had transported 29 guns to a New York resident in Georgia on May 21, 2023. This included stolen firearms and a handgun equipped with a machine gun conversion device, the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Those guns were then transported to a property on Western Avenue in Albany.
Newsome knew that neither he nor the other person were licensed manufacturers or gun dealers.
Law(e) enforcement searched the Western Avenue property on May 23, 2023 and found 34 firearms, including the ones that were transferred.
Newsome also must serve 3 years of post-release supervision.
Four other people have been charged in this investigation. Anthony Luizzi and Brandon Bartley have been sentenced to prison. Jabree Jones was charged with violating the terms of his federal probation and is due in court on Jan. 29 for a final revocation hearing.
Another suspect in the investigation, Anthony Zaremski, was fatally shot during the execution of a federal search warrant on May 23, 2023, at his apartment in Clifton Park, after Zaremski opened fire and wounded two officers.
