Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is working to improve the federal milk pricing system and make sure New York’s small and mid-sized dairy farmers do not suffer from inadequate pay.
In a virtual press conference on Thursday. Gillibrand called on the United States Government Accountability Office to evaluate the workability of the federal milk pricing system.
This is a follow-up from introducing her legislation, the “Diary Pricing Opportunity Act,” which is meant to pave the way for reforming and modernizing federal milk pricing, ensuring that it is working in the best interests of all farms.
New York is the fifth largest dairy-producing state in the nation and home to nearly 3,500 dairy farms
