Woman headed to prison for wrong-way DWI crash

Alexandria McCumber was sentenced to 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison for a drunken wrong-way crash on I-90.

A Glenville woman was sentenced to 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison for a wrong-way drunken crash on I-90 last year.

Alexandria McCumber, 29, admitted to driving west in the eastbound lane on Oct. 12, 2024. McCumber’s SUV crashed into a BMV. She and the driver of the other vehicle had to be extricated and rushed to Albany Medical Center, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.

The other driver’s injuries including a broken femur, 13 broken ribs, collapsed lung and other injuries.

McCumber pleaded guilty to second-degree vehicular assault and operating a motor vehicle while impaired and causing injury.

The victim’s wife read an impact statement before sentencing on Tuesday describing how their lives have changed.

 “Before, (he) was a dedicated provider, an involved father and my partner in every sense. After, he became a man consumed by physical pain and emotional torment, forced to rebuild himself from broken pieces.”
