Hochul ‘furious’ after arrest of former aide
Gov. Kathy Hochul says she’s “furious” after one of her former aides was arrested by the FBI.
As NewsChannel 13 reported on Tuesday, Linda Sun is accused of acting as an undisclosed agent of the Chinese government.
“I’m furious, and I’m outraged and absolutely shocked at how brazen her behavior was. It was a betrayal of trust – the trust of government, the trust of the people,” said Hochul. “I’ll tell you this, the second we discovered some levels of misconduct, we fired her, we alerted the authorities,” Hochul said.
Sun held several positions within the New York state government before becoming Hochul’s deputy chief of staff.
Her husband, Chris Hu was also arrested.
They both pleaded not guilty in federal court on Wednesday.
Sun is accused of blocking representatives from Taiwan from having access to the New York governor’s office.
She is also accused of providing unauthorized invitation letters from the New York governor’s office to facilitate travel by officials in China.
She received millions of dollars in return according to authorities, a property in Hawaii, tickets to events, and salted duck prepared by a personal chef.
