Hochul: Outage not believed to be cyber attack; Albany departments affected
Gov. Kathy Hochul said that the global internet outage is not believed to be any cyber attack.
“It is a more of a technical issue. There is no risk to personal sensitive information that we’re aware of. Although we are continuing to monitor the environment very closely nonetheless, this has caused huge disruptions across the state of New York around the country and indeed the globe,” she said.
New York Chief Cyber Officer Colin Ahern said the priority is to ensure all emergency systems in the state are operational and able to address emergency response needs right now. There is no timeline for full restoration, he said.
Albany’s 911 dispatch center is fully back online, according to Mayor Kathy Sheehan. During the disruption, emergency services were able to receive calls and dispatch police and firefighters to respond to emergencies, she said.
Critical functions are restored at the Shaker Place Nursing Home, according to Albany County Executive Dan McCoy. Now he said the county is prioritizing other life and public safety departments.
