Legislation signed to regulate hunting competitions
Gov. Kathy Hochul signed legislation Friday aimed at helping to protect wildlife. The new law amends an existing environmental conservation law to make contests, competitions and tournaments where a large number of animals are killed illegal.

The new law amends an existing environmental conservation law to make contests, competitions and tournaments where a large number of animals are killed illegal.
The legislation aims to protect coyotes, crows, squirrels and rabbits.
It does not include contests involving white-tailed deer, turkeys and bear or fishing contests.
