IRS now accepting and processing tax returns

The IRS started accepting and processing tax returns today.

The filing deadline for most people to submit their returns, ask for an extension, and pay money owed is April 18th this year.

That’s because the normal filing date of April 15th falls on a weekend this year.

The IRS says taxpayers should expect a smoother filing season this year.

The agency added 5,000 customer service representatives and continues to chip away at the backlog of unprocessed returns from last year.
