Central Warehouse demolition on hold again

Plans to tear down the Central Warehouse in Albany are on hold, after a judge granted an injunction requested by the demolition firm suing over the project. Jackson Demolition filed a lawsuit in state Supreme Court of Albany County against Advance Albany County Alliance, claiming that the organization wrongly passed over the firm when it awarded the bid to demolish the dilapidated structure – which has long been a major eyesore.

Plans to tear down an Albany eyesore are on hold.

A judge granted an injunction requested by the demolition firm suing over the Central Warehouse project.

Jackson Demolition filed a lawsuit in state Supreme Court of Albany County against Advance Albany County Alliance. Jackson claims the organization wrongly passed over the firm, which submitted a less expensive proposal, when it awarded the bid to demolish the dilapidated structure.

Judge Christina Ryba granted the temporary injunction on the demolition Tuesday, pending a hearing on April 25.

Jackson Demolition said it had submitted a lower bid than the two Long Island firms that were awarded the contract.

Advance Albany County Alliance referred NewsChannel 13 to a previous statement that said that cost was not the only factor in awarding the bid. They also included experience, community engagement and safety.

The project is next to an active rail line, which has already been hit by debris falling from the structure.
