Kindlon declares primary victory, will face Ambrosio in November
DELMAR – Long time area Defense Attorney Lee Kindlon, 48, declared victory Tuesday night in the Democratic primary for Albany County District Attorney, defeating five term incumbent David Soares in a rematch of the 2012 primary race.
Kindlon will now face GOP candidate Ralph Ambrosio in November’s General Election.
Ambrosio obtained his law degree while serving with the New York State Police, going on to become an Assistant District Attorney in Greene and Columbia Counties. He also served as a public defender before becoming Assistant Attorney General under Dennis Vacco.
“As I went door to door, I found the phenomenon that we started to call “Soares Fatigue”,” Kindlon stated. “They’re just tired of David and his excuses and his antics and the inability to solve a lot of the problems that are facing us in Albany County.”
The Times Union reported that David Soares did not concede the primary.
At the time Kindlon declare victory, right around 10:30 PM Tuesday night, he had 11,603 votes to Soares 9,337, roughly 55 percent of the vote.
There are 99,639 enrolled democrats in Albany County. If 21,525 people cast ballots, it means only about one in five (21.6%) of the eligible Democratic voters went to the polls.
