One local school district says it is getting rid of recess.
The Cairo-Durham middle and high schools will eliminate recess in favor of a study hall period.
Lunch periods will also be one minute shorter than they were last year.
The district told NewsChannel 13 the decision came after a great deal of deliberation and consideration among the staff.
The time used for recess could be better used in a study hall, they said, to help encourage more productivity and time for students to meet with teachers.
