Liz Bishop announces retirement after 52 years at WRGB

A mainstay in Capital Region broadcasting is retiring.

Liz Bishop announced on Wednesday she will leave WRGB – CBS6.

Bishop has been with the station for 52 years, starting as a weekend sportscaster in 1973 while attending UAlbany, in a time where female sportscasters were rare. She quickly moved into the news department, reporting on countless major news events in the Capital Region.

Bishop has won five regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, several New York State Associated Press Broadcast Awards, and three New York State Emmy Awards, along with several nominations.

She was inducted into the New York State Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2016.

Her last day at the station will be May 30.
