Man admits to arson on property of Rotterdam restaurant

A man has admitted to setting a fire to a storage shed on the property of a Rotterdam business in June.

Eric Reed, 36, pleaded guilty last week to third-degree arson, according to the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office. Reed intentionally set fire to a shed with stacks of wood near Wagon Train BBQ at 671 Mariaville Road on June 4.

The fire spread quickly to another storage shed and electrical pole and caused power outages. No one was injured, but the building had extensive damage.

Police reviewed camera footage from the restaurant and surrounding area and determined Reed was the suspect.

Reed is scheduled to receive 4 to 8 years in prison when sentenced on Dec. 19.
