Man allegedly drove drunk, crashed into Saratoga Springs police vehicle
A Saratoga Springs Police officer was hurt after police said a drunk driver crashed into his vehicle.
It happened at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Route 9N and Kirby Road. Officer Quinn Leffler was assisting to direct traffic away from a personal injury crash at that location.
Police said a gray Toyota RAV4 disregarded the emergency lights and struck Leffler’s vehicle while he was sitting inside. Leffler let other officers know he was hit and they followed the driver.
The driver was arrested after a pursuit that lasted several minutes. John Bidonde, 21, of Porter Corners, was charged with reckless endangerment, assault, aggravated DWI, DWI, operating a motor vehicle with a BAC 0.08% or greater and unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle on highway, failure to obey a traffic control device.
He was released and due in Saratoga Springs City Court on Jan. 23 at 9 a.m.
Leffler was taken to Saratoga Hospital and released. He is expected to return to duty within several weeks, according to police.
