Man arraigned for murder of Amanda Jaikaran in Schenectady
Schenectady, N.Y. (WNYT) – The family of Amanda Jaikaran gathered outside the Schenectady County Courthouse, wearing shirts with her picture.
They had just seen her accused murderer, Amanda’s former boyfriend.
“The minute he walked in, he looked straight at me and I turned my body and I looked him dead in the face,” said Amanda’s sister, Samantha Jaikaran. “He knows what he took from us. He knows how much she was loved. She was not just loved by her mom, her brother, her sister. She has three kids that stand today in court, making sure they support their mom. We all stand up here to make sure he sees that you didn’t leave her silenced. You did not leave her silenced. We’re here. We’re here. We will be her voice.”
It took a while for Lance White to appear. He did not want to go into the courtroom, but Judge Mark Caruso was in charge and told officers to bring him in.
White was then arraigned on charges of murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and attempted assault.
“He didn’t want to face court,” said Kesri Parmanand, Amanda’s mother. “He said in a message that he don’t want to come, actually bring him in and he didn’t want to come, but he had nothing to say he couldn’t do it. He had to come.”
“He abused my mom for three years and I watched it happen,” added Anna Hussain, Amanda’s daughter.
Exclusive video shows White on the ground right after the attack on March 14 on Lincoln Avenue in Schenectady.
Court documents say Amanda was stabbed repeatedly in the neck, chest, arms, and hands.
Her family says she had broken up with White six months before.
“This is a man I used to live with, that my mom used to trust, I don’t know why. He’s always been bad, overall,” said Amanda’s son, Arman Husain.
“He’s mad because she found a way to leave and she’s just smarter than him in general,” said Anna.
“He looked like he needs God in his life and we all need to pray for everyone,” said Amanda’s cousin Ivor Leitch. “We should give him the bible at the next attending so he should know one of the commandments is thou shall not kill.”
