Man arrested 45 times now accused of stealing guns from bait shop

A Watervliet man, who has been arrested 45 times, is now accused of stealing guns from a bait shop.

Matthew J. McKay, 53, allegedly broke into Conroy’s Bait Shop on 19th Street in Watervliet on Aug. 18, police said. He allegedly took several guns.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives searched McKay’s residence as part of the investigation and found the stolen items, including the guns, they said.

McKay was charged with burglary, criminal possession of a weapon, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, and criminal mischief. He was arraigned in Watervliet City Court and sent to Albany County Jail.

McKay is currently on parole and has been arrested on 24 felony counts in the past and had 29 convictions. He had just been arrested on Aug. 24 on unrelated charges and released on an appearance ticket.
