Man involved in serious Sandgate, VT vehicle crash turns himself in

Vermont State Police tell us the man who was involved in a serious bodily injury crash on July 15, leaving one person seriously injured, has turned himself in.

Shaftsbury Barracks in Vermont responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on SE Corners Road in Sandgate on July 15.

Vermont State Police say initial investigation revealed that the crash was caused by one person, Austin Carrier, 20, towing a Jeep vehicle with their own Jeep vehicle. The vehicle being towed was being steered by another person, Jalen Davis, 18.

Authorities say as the towing vehicle was going up an incline on the road, the vehicle’s drive shaft broke. This resulted in both vehicles to roll backwards.

Carrier and Davis jumped out of each of the vehicles, said police.

State Police say as Davis jumped out of the vehicle, she was unable to get out of the way of the towing vehicle, which rolled on top of her and causing her serious injuries.

Davis was flown to Albany Medical Center for serious bodily injuries.

New information from Vermont State Police says Carrier was charged with gross negligent operation resulting in serious bodily injury.

Carrier was also issued a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint (VCVC), which has a penalty of a $249 fine and 0 points.

Authorities say Carrier turned himself in at Shaftsbury Barracks for processing and was released with a criminal citation to appear at Bennington Superior Court on September 16.
