Zai John Vanhoesen, 25, and another person broke into an apartment at Hillcrest Village in Niskayuna in January 2023. A mother and two kids inside were terrified, according to the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office.
Vanhoesen and the other person quickly realized they had the wrong apartment.
The mom called police, who quickly found Vanhoesen’s car.
Video also shows the pair buying face masks and zip ties at a store half an hour earlier, investigators said.
Vanhoesen was previously sentenced to five years in prison in 2018 for a criminal possession of a weapon.
Vanhoesen also faces five years of post-release supervision.
