Man sentenced on gun charge in connection to fatal shooting of Albany woman

A man has been sentenced to 3 to 6 years in prison in connection with the shooting of an Albany woman last Christmas Day.

Sky Lemmons-Dixon was shot in her State Street apartment. She died a week later on Jan. 1.

Michael Varlack pleaded guilty in October to criminal possession of a weapon.

Prosecutors have not said how he is connected to the case.

Lemmons-Dixon was killed a few weeks after her ex-boyfriend, Houston Ketter III, was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison for assaulting her and another woman. In one instance, he heated up a pot, then placed the hot pot on various parts of her body before using it to break her arm, investigators said.

Lemmons-Dixon provided testimony to the grand jury in his trial, but she skipped appearing for his actual trial.
