Mass. voters defeat proposal to set minimum wage for tipped workers

Massachusetts overwhelmingly rejected a ballot proposition to establish a minimum wage for tipped workers.

Proposition 5 would have gradually increased the minimum wage of tipped workers until it meets the state minimum wage. It also would continue to permit tipping in addition to the minimum wage.

A total of 64% of voters opposed the measures compared with 36% in favor.

NewsChannel 13 Dan Levy spoke with restaurant workers who were not in favor.

Gov. Maura Healy also opposed measure.
