A new bill could soon reimburse upstate school districts for the expense of providing educational services to migrant students who have been transported from New York City.
A new bill could soon reimburse upstate school districts for the expense of providing educational services to migrant students who have been transported from New York City.
The “Migrant Student Transfer Reimbursement Act” would reimburse local school districts for any costs associated with taking in migrant students.
This includes per-pupil expenses and for hiring English as a second language teachers.
The average cost to educate a child in New York public schools is about $26,000 a year per student, according to Sen. Jim Tedisco.
