Community members in Albany are hoping to breathe new life into the South End with a new cultural center.

Community members in Albany are hoping to breathe new life into the South End with a new cultural center.

The Alice Moore Black Arts & Cultural Center is being developed at the corner of Madison and South Pearl streets.

That’s the former home of the African American Cultural Center, which was dissolved due to a lack of funding and staff last month.

An interim advisory committee spoke Wednesday about how they hope to expand upon their mission in the South End.

“There’s much work to be done, to make it a real reality, but we’re gonna do it. and so many people have offered their services, and their support in so many different ways, so we’re absolutely delighted,” said Alice Green, president of the Alice Moore Foundation.

The group has plans to expand the center space to include other local businesses and community organizations, including housing and other programming.
