New laws in effect across the Capital Region for 2025
It’s 2025 and that means new laws will be going into effect across the capital region. From minimum wage to affordable housing – there are a variety of laws that many will notice especially if you work in another state.
When it comes to minimum wage, Vermont will see a slight bump to $14.01 per hour. but if you own an electric vehicle, you will now have to pay a $89 registration fee to help the state pay for charging ports.
In Massachusetts, starting on February 2 a new law will allow families to add a new rental apartment or accessory dwelling unit to their property that is up to 900 square feet.
If a business has more than 25 employees, it will be required to share salary ranges and protect an employee’s right to ask. The Commonwealth will be the 11th state to mandate pay transparency, new york is among those states and that will start on October 29.
In New York, the state’s constitutional protections against discrimination have expanded. Also, when it comes to family planning there will now be mandated paid prenatal leave along with paid lactation breaks.
